Edward, Houston, TX
Hello! I’m Edward and I’m a Bull Terrier!
There are a few famous Bull Terriers — Frankenweenie, the Target Dog, Willy Patton, Bodger — but the most well-known is probably Spuds Mackenzie, the Bud Light dog from the 80′s. Some people just don’t know what I am (“Is that a dog?”) and quite a lot of people ask if I’m a pit bull. In some areas with BSL, Bull Terriers are affected along with pibbles. In fact, not too long ago, the top agility Bull Terrier in the country was denied being able to compete in one city because of his breed!
Anyway, about me — I was born in Miami, FL on June 16th, 2007. I was bought by my family in October 2007 and put on an airplane to Houston. When they picked me up from the airport, I was so excited to see them that I peed!!! Mom calls me her “heart dog” and we were meant to be. She’s my best friend!
A few months after living with my family, I started losing my fur and my skin was really pink and dry — I had demodectic mange! I figure my siblings probably had it, too, and I hope they got loving families like I did who took care of them. Demodex was no fun, but you know what? I was proof that BALD IS BEAUTIFUL!
Mom had never seen a Bull Terrier before me and she didn’t see another one till early in 2010! I was nearly three by then! The first Bull Terrier I ever met was my best friend, Knuckles. He’s pawsome and we have a lot of fun together. One time, we decided to take a mud bath, even though I hate water… (mud is different, right? :-))
Also in 2010, I was attacked by another dog. I was just standing there minding my own business… and then she was latched onto my head. The bite turned into an abscess and it hurt really bad. The vet drained it and I had a hole in my head for a while; now it’s scarred.
Despite that (and never having any formal training), I still passed my CGC! And then, in December 2012, I passed my therapy dog certification test through The Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dogs, Inc.! I am not the most obedient bullie ever, but I am a softie.
You see, the fact is: I love everyone and everything (except water). Everyone is my best friend! Kids are fantastic, cats are fantastic (especially when they swat me on the nose), dogs are fantastic! I am the happiest, smiliest bullie there is! Mom says that when you have a good thing, you share it and since I’m the bestest thing in her life, she loves sharing me with others. We hope we can bring a lot of joy to people.
Bull Terriers have an infectious zest for life — life is a party and I want to have fun! I was raised with love and I give love wherever I go. I’m really lucky that I got a family that loves me so much. There are so many animals that suffer every day… I’ve had three foster siblings from the Texas Gulf Coast Bull Terrier Club and Mom wishes she could bring home all the suffering furkids and take away all their pain.
We Bull Terriers are crazy, powerful and yup, we have big teeth — but we also have big hearts. I have never met a stranger. I think everyone exists to love on me… but there is still a lot of ignorance and people are afraid of what they don’t know. People have even crossed the street to avoid me, or told Mom, “Keep that dog close.”
But I am NOT “that dog” — I’m Edward and I love you.
